Nurse 52:

Nurse Assistant Program

Welcome

Hello Class,

My name is Tonya Robinson, I started my nursing career as a certified nursing assistant 41 years ago and I've worked in various areas of the nursing profession as a CNA/HHA, Licensed Vocational Nurse, and currently as a Register Nurse. I graduated from the University of Phoenix, with a master’s degree in nursing specializing in Nursing Education. I'm an ANCC Board Certified Geriatric Nurse and have spent most of my career working, and going to school even today, I’m still taking classes, and attending seminars and conferences to remain current in my area of expertise. Currently, I'm the Program Director for the Nursing Assistant program here at Modesto Junior College and work for a local long-term care facility here in Modesto. You may address me as Tonya, Mrs. Robinson, Professor, or Teacher and I will answer to them all.

I want to WELCOME you all to NURSE 52 Nurse Assistant Program, this is a 16 - week fast-paced course (FALL and Spring Semester) 7 - weeks (SUMMER). You will be introduced to the role of a nurse assistant in long-term care, how to care for our ageing population and the importance of being a part of the healthcare profession. I'm excited to be a part of your learning experience and look forward to getting to know you all during this semester.

I look forward to spending this next semester with you all.

My Teaching Philosophy

In this class, I promote acceptance of all people. People of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, socioeconomic levels, cultures, and abilities are valued, welcomed, and included in this class! It is extremely important that ALL my students feel comfortable in this class. I want to create a relaxed and comfortable environment for us to get to know each other and grow as nurse assistants. This means treating each other with mutual respect, being professional, and withholding opinions that may be judgmental. This will help everyone enjoy and ultimately succeed in our class.
