Our course is divided into 5 sections. Below, I introduce these sections of the course and their primary related assignments then briefly share the plan to build the necessary behaviors so you will be able to deliver each speech with confidence and skill.
The Quotation Speech (5 minutes): In this short values-based persuasive speech you will introduce a quotation that holds meaning for you, connect it with 2 values that guide you in your life and share stories that illustrate these values at work in your life.

Practice your quotation speech both recorded and outside of class.

The influential person speech (7-10 minutes): In this research-based informative speech you will teach your audience about 1 famous person who inspires you.

Topic brainstorming and brief research of possible topics.
Research your influential person.
Develop an outline in which you share inspirational details about your influential person.
Develop an image-rich slide show to illustrate your presentation.
Practice your speech with the slides for comfort and confidence.
Deliver your recorded influential person speech to the class.
The Problem Speech (7-10 minutes): In this research-based persuasive speech you will convince your audience to take action to help solve a societal problem that is important to you.

Read and watch videos about the difficulties of persuasion, ethical persuasion and clear, emotion-provoking language used to persuade.

Research your problem
Develop an outline in which you explain the problem, share a solution that a group or prominent individual is fighting for and explain what your audience can do to help.
Develop an image-rich slide show to illustrate your presentation.
Practice your speech with the slides for comfort and confidence.
Deliver your recorded problem speech to the class.
As part of our final week, we will:
Reflect on our individual and collective success in the course
Present an award to another person in our class: In this three-minute presentation you will present an award to a person in our class who was assigned to you in week 10.
Your professor will share some words of wisdom.
We will do a final grade check
