Saturday, August 11, 2018

Arrival via flight United Airlines UA 5635 scheduled to arrive at 09:13 at Sacramento International Airport (SMF) Terminal A (check flight details link for delays or terminal changes when picking up).

Volunteers and student assignments for pick up and the day's activities:

  • Lion Ronnie (SF Fil-Am)
    • Will take care of 2 students of Lion George, drop off at Lion George's house, where he also lives
  • Lions August and Paul (SF Fil-Am Lions)
    • Will take care of Paul's 1 students
  • Lions George P. and Ora (SSF Golden Gate Lions)
    • Will take care of their 4 students
    • LIon Manny with his truck, will help with the baggage ( Lions Manny and Ora will communicate to each other)
  • Lion Feli Mely (SSF Golden Gate Lions)
    • Will take care of her 2 students ( split with Lions Bing/Ora)
  • Lions PDG Macy and Michael
    • Will take care of their 3 students, proceed to Fountain Lake for the night after day's activities
  • Lion Dr Jun (SF Fil-Am Lions)
    • Will take care of Lion Dons/Janelle's 1 student, drop off at her host family, Janelle Kobayashi in SF. This student will have separate activities until August 14.Possible Lions August and Paul will drop 1 student to Janelle depending on the logistics.Discussed with Janelle.
    • Will also take care of 2 students of Lion Rufo, drop off at SF Nueva Vizcaya Lions fundraising event in Vallejo
  • Lion 2VDG Helen will be at the Sac Airport to "welcome" the students.

Brief orientation with students on the Youth Exchange Program, location TBD, directly after they are picked up.

Suggested Activities for the day (up to the individual):

  • Sightseeing and lunch around Old Sacramento
  • Tour of the state capitol
  • Lions PDG Macy and Michael Chan invite everyone to Fountain Lake, 1701 Springvale Road, Placerville 95667 from 2 PM to midnight
  • Stop by Treasure Island vista point of San Francisco skyline on the way back
  • Host families can go on their own schedule

Sunday, August 12, 2018

Welcome and Orientation Potluck Party from 11:00-14:00 at Lion Bing Yamat's residence at 2340 Donegal Ave, South San Francisco, CA 94080. Lions Bing, Ora, George, and the South San Francisco Golden Gate Lions Club will chair this event.

Lions who will attend and bring potluck should communicate with Lion Ora to coordinate before Thursday.

Lions and host families are invited to join.

PDG Macy's students will not attend the orientation as they will have stayed the previous night at Fountain Lake, and will instead go to the American River and Gold Rush Museum, and then back to SF to attend the PCL Installation in the evening.

In the afternoon, Lions Dr. Jun, August & Paul, and Rufo (SF Fil-Am Lions) will take the students to Twin Peaks Ocean Beach. Lion August and Paul's 3 students also went to the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park (briefly) and also Twin Peaks (foggy).

PCL Pres Erik Winkler (Burlingame LC) is inviting all the Japanese Youth Exchange students to attend the PCL Installation in the evening. He is working for the complimentary tickets for the students. Host families accompanying the students need to RSVP for the PCL Installation/Dinner.

  • Lion George might attend with his 2 students to PCL. He needs to RSVP esp . inform Lion Erik that his 2 students are coming .

Monday, August 13, 2018

Morning meeting at 08:30 at Lion Bing Yamat's residence at 2340 Donegal Ave, South San Francisco, CA 94080 to convoy to day activity. On the way, they will stop by Lion Paul's house to pick up him and his 1 student at 08:45.

Volunteers: Lion Dr. Jun, Lions George P. and Ora., Lions PDG Macy and Michael (will take care of 2 students of Rufo), Lion Paul

Lion Dr Jun (SF Fil-Am Lions) will accompany students in volunteering at the Lions In Sight of CA warehouse in Vallejo warehouse from 10:00-13:00, c/o PID Dr. Bill, PDG Linda, and PDG Walter (Lions in Sight). The warehouse is located at 1404 Lemon St, Vallejo, CA 94590.

Lion Feli ( SSF Golden Gate) together with her 2 students will meet the group at Lions In Sight warehouse in Vallejo.

Possible- Lion Rufo ( SF Fil-Am) will meet the group in LIons In Sight ware house in Vallejo.

After Lions in Sight, students will proceed to a free tour of the Jelly Belly Candy Company Factory at 1 Jelly Belly Ln, Fairfield, CA 94533.

If time allows, students will visit and shop for souvenirs at the Vacaville Premium Outlets at 321 Nut Tree Rd, Vacaville, CA 95687.

Student count - Lions Dr Bing/Ora -4, Rufo-2, George -2, Paul-1,PDG Macy 3

Lion Vem ( SF Nueva Vizcaya) will provide sandwiches and fruits for lunch.

Because of extreme fog and cold weather, the Stow Lake picnic and boating as well as the Golden Gate Bridge Biking, etc were postponed to other day. Students went to SF Museum of Modern Arts ( tickets c/o Lions Uni and Conn, SF Host) and Yerba Buena Gardens Park.Dinner at Lion Dr Bing's Place c/o Lions Ora, George and Feli.

Hana attended the CPR class with Lion Dr Jun at SF VA Med Center/UCSF. Hana was dropped to his new host family ( split with Janelle),

Lions Don and Betty ( Daly City Host).

Lion George and 2 of his students went to the Mall.

Lion Don and his student went the Redwoods and - Basin.

Lion Ora and her students went to the Mall.

Lion Paul not available to volunteer

Lion George and his 2 students are scheduled to go to Santa Cruz and will not attend activity.

Volunteers:

  • Lions Dr Jun, Luisa, and August Valera (SF Fil-Am Lions) will take Lion Paul's student, Lion Rufo's 2 students, and Lion Don's student (after Millbrae only)
  • Lions Ora and George will take their 4 students
  • Lions Macy and Michael Chan will take their 3 students

Meeting Place: Lion Dr Bing's place at 9:30 AM.

In the morning, we will go to the Millbrae Machines Car Show c/o Lion Calvin Chin and Lion President Bart Speccia (Millbrae Lions) in downtown Millbrae.

We will have lunch at In-n-Out burger at Millbrae.

In the afternoon, we will take a tour of Silicon Valley. Stops include:

  • YouTube headquarters in San Bruno
  • Google Android Lawn Statues and Google Merchandise Store
  • NASA Ames Visitor Center at Moffett Field
  • Intel Museum
  • Apple Park Visitor Center

Dinner at 6:00 PM at Lions Uni and Conn Buckley's (SF Host Lions) place: 2320 Clarke Ave, East Palo Alto, CA 94303. Thanks Lions Conn and Uni for the Pizza, Pasta, Chicken, Fruits, etc.

Volunteering at the San Francisco Food Bank from 9:00-11:00 with Lion Luisa (SF Fil-Am Lions).

Church at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Daly City from 11:30-12:30.

Chinese food takeout lunch at Lion Ora Seyler's house at 1:00 c/o Lions Jun and Luisa (SF Fil-Am Lions).

Sightseeing at Devil's Slide Vista Point and the nearby beach to follow.

Dinner at Lion Ora Seyler's house (leftovers).

PDG Macy's students will attend Central Peninsula Church in the morning. Will visit Stanford University and Cantor Arts Museum on campus. Will Attend SF Chinatown Installation in the evening.

Lunch at Lion Ora's place, then drive to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in the afternoon.

Short stop at Pigeon Point Lighthouse on the way back.

Dr Bing brought her 6 students to Exploratorium then King Wah Dimsum for lunch.

Host families have their own activities.

For PDG Macy's students-Genentech Tour c/o Lions Scot ( San Carlos)and Calvin ( Millbare), Dinner with PDG Macy's granddaughters.

Pot Luck Goodbye Party at Lion Dr Bing's place. Well attended -Lions Dr Jun,Luisa, August and Paul, Lions Dr Bing, Ora, George P , Feli Meli, and other SSF Golden Gate Lions, Lions George and Marie Poon, Lions Don and Betty Fleming, Lions Rufo and Vem, Lion 1st VDG Helen.PDG Macy and Michael Chan. DG Lydia Taylor presented her pins to the students. Students were given the chance to shared their experience and expressed their gratitude, Host families also shared their experiences as well as other lions volunteers, too shared their experiences. Very enjoyable and emotional events.
