The next Public Service Event Training Exercise has been scheduled for Saturday 11/22/2025. This training exercise is for new hams and hams that are new to working Public Service Events. Our club provides communications support to between 7 and 10 community events each year. This training exercise will prepare you to work with our club members at these events. In the classroom we will cover pre-event planning, expectations of communications volunteers, what and what not to say on the radio, and general radio procedures. We will then move outside for practical application of what we learned in the classroom. We will then follow up with an After Action Review back in the classroom.
Experienced hams are needed to facilitate the exercise and mentor the new hams.
Linn County Emergency Management Agency has offered the use of the Emergency Operations Center for the classroom portion of the exercise as well as the EOC radios for use by net control. The EMA office is on the Kirkwood Community College campus at 6301 Kirkwood Blvd SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404.
The event is scheduled for the morning of Saturday November 22. The exercise will begin at 8 am and run for about four hours.
