Editorial Reviews
"Original, lyrical, carefully crafted, and with unflinching honesty, in her novel, "Leftovers After Life," author Lini S. Kadaba deftly explores how we reckon with the past to reclaim the present. In uncovering what's been packed away (physically and emotionally), Neena must decide what to keep, what to discard, and whether it's ever really possible to make peace with the ones who raised us.
Written with an eloquence and style that lifts her novel to an impressive level of literary excellence, "Leftovers After Life" is one of those compelling and emotionally engaging stories that will linger in the mind and memory of the reader long after it has been finished and set back upon the shelf. Highly recommended for community library Contemporary Fiction collections."
Lini S. Kadaba has written a wonderful, thought-provoking novel about family, memory, secrets, love, and loss. Her ingenious structure uses everyday objects – a massage-o-matic, a couch, bangles, photos, slippers, newspapers, even baby teeth – the flotsam and jetsam of human life – to explore not only the relationships of her well-drawn characters, but also of the immigrant experience. Highly recommended.
Lyrical and unflinching, this debut from award-winning journalist [Lini S.] Kadaba is a meditation on reckoning with the past to reclaim the present.
