Linhan (Angelina) Xu is an artist, fashion designer, and cultural organizer working at the intersection of contemporary art, fashion, and traditional Chinese craft. Her practice is grounded in embodied traditions such as Chinese calligraphy, Tai Chi, knotting, and embroidery, which she reinterprets through wearable structures, performance, and material experimentation.
As a fashion designer, Xu explores the boundary between clothing and installation. Her work integrates traditional materials and craft techniques with contemporary construction, emphasizing tactility, modularity, and performative potential. Through this approach, she frames fashion as both a cultural medium and an experiential system.
In parallel with her studio practice, Xu actively works as a curator and cultural facilitator. She is the initiator of The Wind from the East, a cross-cultural exhibition platform that brings together established traditional artists and emerging contemporary practitioners. Through this project, she has organized exhibitions that foster dialogue across generations and disciplines, particularly focusing on recontextualizing Chinese calligraphy and ink traditions within contemporary art discourse.
Beyond the art world, Xu is also the founder of Mystic Thread, a jewelry brand inspired by traditional Chinese materials and philosophies. The brand incorporates natural crystals, jade, sandalwood, and Chinese medicinal elements into contemporary wearable objects, translating cultural symbolism into everyday forms.
