Linguistics as a discipline is not very popular across the globe yet the linguists are serving different fields of life, all over the world. Some of the real life applications of linguistics are as follows.

  • Computational linguistics / Natural Language Processing: automatic grammar and spell checking, machine translation, speech recognition and synthesis for interaction with computers and various other applications related to automatic processing of human language by machines.

  • Second and Foreign language learning: helps in better understanding of language teaching and learning, influence of native language and errors occurring due to it

  • Neurolinguistics/ Biolinguistics: how human brains comprehend and produce such a complex phenomena as language in such an effortless and automatic manner

  • Clinical Linguistics: speech therapy as well as various developmental and language disorders like Dyslexia, Aphasia etc.
