Intrinsic Motivation

Drive-reduction Theories of Motivation

Intrinsic Motivation (sometimes called Curiosity-Driven Learning)

Intrinsic Motivation can be seen as a type of Active Learning. Due to unrealistic of the assumptions from many Active Learning algorithms that it is possible to learn a model of complete world within lifetime, and/or that the world is learnable everywhere, and/or where noise is homogeneous everywhere, new Active Learning heuristics based on psychological concepts of Intrinsic Motivation have been proposed which allows robots explore different activities for their own sake, without requiring any external reward and constrained unrealistic assumptions.
