This semester, we will have the opportunity to collaborate with the flute studio on new pieces for flute duo!

3 sets of your score/parts (1 for grading, 2 for the performers) – don’t hand in the original!

Readings with Performers:
We are planning to have the readings during class on November 19, but this is dependent on student availability.
- Bring 2 photocopies of the score so your colleagues can follow along
Compose a work for flute duo, observe the following:
- The piece must be no shorter than 2:00 and no longer than 4:00.
- The piece must demonstrate:
o At least one fast run
o Contrasting moods through variation of at least two of the following:
§ Dynamics,
§ Register,
§ Articulations,
§ Harmony,
§ Meter change,
§ Etc.
- Dr. Sperling will join our class on September 17 to demonstrate the flute and look at your pieces in progress and/or answer your questions
- Prepare to speak a little about how your piece fulfills the assignment requirements.
Your score and parts should include:
Pitch and rhythm
Meter
Mood indication and tempo marks
Dynamics
Articulations
Technique indications, as needed
