Participant Directed Services
Have you heard of the Self Determination Program, but don't feel ready to tackle it at the moment?
Great News! You can still access some of the choice you are looking for through PDS!
PDS is Participant Directed Services and it allows you and your family to have more choice and control over your services. Anyone who receives services through the Regional Centers is eligible for PDS.
In PDS, clients and/or family members can identify people that they want to provide their services (including family, friends, or those familiar to them) who are 18+ and qualified. There are 10 services.
How it works
The client can still use "Vendored providers", but can also use "Participant Directed Services".
A vendored FMS (Financial Management Service) pays the client's service provider(s) and handles the payroll, taxes, reporting, etc.
The rates for most participant directed services are set by the state.
Steps to take
Complete our referral here: Linktr.ee
Once the POS (Purchase of service) is approved and the FMS receives the authorization, you may start services!
Purchase of Service
When we create the "Purchase of Service" (POS), it is our policy that we do so with one year as the length of service. Please keep in mind that this is just the length of your ability to continue attending the program without either of us having to request a new POS. You always have the right to cancel the POS at any time should you decide that you no longer wish to attend.
Exceptions
We are able to make exceptions to this policy for circumstances such as those attending during the summer only, or those who will be moving out of town soon, etc. Please reach out to us at linesandlivingart@gmail.com if you'd like to discuss exceptions.
PDS is often a way to gain more choice and control, and in some cases, it is a pathway or a preliminary step towards enrolling in the more comprehensive Self-Determination Program. You can read more about SDP below.
Self Determination Program
The Self Determination Program allows you the freedom to choose services and providers that meet your needs!
SDP is a way for the individual/ family to "direct" the development of their plan and identify their strengths, preferences, and desired outcomes across various life areas (e.g., employment, living arrangements, social activities). The emphasis is on achieving personally defined outcomes that promote inclusion and a fulfilling life in the community.
How it works
In SDP, individuals can identify people that they want to provide their services (including family, friends, or those familiar to them) who are 18+ and qualified.
SDP Participants can choose from a wide array of services (categorized into these service areas & codes) including those not vendored.
SDP provides comprehensive control and budget authority. Participants (and their families) use their individualized budget to purchase a wide range of services and supports they choose. The budget is based on the individual's past service utilization and current needs, as outlined in their IPP.
The Individual and service providers agree on a rate. Families report that this flexibility can help with things like acquiring quality staff and experiencing less turnover. There are also some services available in SDP that are not available in the traditional model.
A vendored FMS (Financial Management System) helps with the payroll, taxes, reporting, etc. (This is similar to Participant Directed Services, but there is also the option to take on more responsibility). The FMS uses an account with your funds to pay the service providers you choose.
An Independent Facilitator of your choosing can help you every step of the way.
