Dear Member,
As RTAL continues to grow and evolve, we have reached a point where several changes are taking place within our organization. As you know, RTAL has a strong and productive relationship with the active executive board of TAL. This partnership is an essential part of our organization, as TAL serves as the umbrella under which we operate. Their leadership helps protect the rights of retirees and advocates to ensure that our health benefits, dental coverage, and pensions remain protected.
We are also fortunate that our local allows retirees to use the union office for meetings and events. Many retiree organizations do not enjoy such a strong relationship with their active leadership, and we are grateful for the support we receive.
That being said, we do need to work within the TAL fiscal calendar, which is why we have adjusted the timeline for dues collection and VOTE-COPE contributions. I am pleased to report that many members have already taken advantage of the convenience of paying through Zelle, and we are grateful that this option is now available to us.
Several years ago, we asked members to indicate their preference for receiving the RTAL newsletter by email, U.S. Mail, or both. Unfortunately, receiving the newsletter through both methods is no longer a viable option.
If you currently receive your newsletter by U.S. Mail and are willing and able to receive it electronically, please let us know by replying to this email with your preferred email address. Members who wish to continue receiving the newsletter through the mail will still be accommodated.
As many of you may know, the United States Postal Service has announced another postage increase beginning this July. As a result, the cost of printing and mailing newsletters continues to rise significantly. Like NYSUT and many other organizations, RTAL is working to manage expenses while maintaining effective communication with our members. We also have very little ability to control what happens once the newsletters, have been mailed.
If you are comfortable receiving your newsletter by email, or if you regularly read our updates on Facebook or on TALONTHEWEB.org and no longer need a printed copy mailed to your home, we would greatly appreciate hearing from you. Every member who transitions to electronic delivery helps RTAL reduce costs and direct more resources toward serving our retirees.
Lastly, if you experience any issues regarding the newsletter or email communications, please know that we are doing our very best to serve our members and are always happy to assist you in any way we can.
We kindly ask that questions or concerns regarding RTAL communications not be directed to the TAL Secretary, as they are not responsible for RTAL communications. Instead, please contact us directly by replying to this email or reach out to RTAL President Anna Jaeger or me.
We appreciate your understanding, patience, and continued support as we work to keep our members informed and connected. Thank you for your continued support of RTAL and for all you have done—and continue to do—for our retiree community.
Warm regards,
Laura Colosa
