Swashbuckling adventures ensue when a little girl opens a book and brings to life true stories about real women throughout history who traded tiaras for tricorns to become pirates. From Princess to Pirate is an ensemble-based full-length comedic play that is perfect for high school, college, and community theatres and offers flexibility in cast size. Meet pirates like Viking princess Alfhild, perpetual Irish dinner guest Grace O’Malley, and iconic dynamic duo Mary Read and Anne Bonney. This campy romp celebrates the power of imagination and reiterates the fact that girls can be anything they want to be– even pirates!

The run time of the show is 90 minutes (and can easily be cut down based on the needs of the program) and casting needs are flexible, with over 50 roles, portrayed by a minimum of 12 actors. This show is appropriate for elementary audiences to adults and is filled with opportunities for actors to explore stage combat, a variety of accents, and a myriad of memorable characters (who are based on real life people!).

From Princess to Pirate premiered at Modesto Junior College in March 2025 with 22 cast members. Five high schools collaborated with the college production team, each taking one of the scenes for different shows. This is a customizable play, perfect for expanding your program and branching into the community.
