So in the vein of my article on the songs Paul wrote for John, it is only natural that I would continue that train of thought as we move from one muse to the next.

In this article I will be analysing and dissecting a selection of songs, both notable and obscure, that were written with Linda in mind, as well as exploring how Paul essentially tells the story of him and Linda through the medium of song. By the end of this article, you should be able to listen to the songs below, and know everything you will ever need to know about Paul and Linda.

Songs with a person's name in the title are quite common, but for this list we're only ranking the best songs about people named Linda. Do you have a favorite Linda song? We want you to vote for your favorite songs about Linda, whether it's a country song about someone named Linda, a Linda rock song, or anything in between. You can even add a song to the list if it's not already here, as long as it's a song with Linda in the title or lyrics.

In 1975, Ronstadt performed shows with Jackson Browne, the Eagles, and Toots and the Maytals.[73] In these shows she would sing lead vocal on numerous songs including the Eagles' Desperado while singing background and playing tambourine and acoustic guitar on others.[74]

Asher executive produced a tribute CD called Listen to Me: Buddy Holly, released September 6, 2011, on which Ronstadt's 1976 version of Buddy Holly's "That'll Be The Day" appears among newly recorded versions of Holly's songs by various artists.[82]

Ronstadt is considered an "interpreter of her times",[85] and has earned praise for her courage to put her "stamp" on many of her songs.[86] Nevertheless, her hits were criticized in some quarters for being cover songs.[by whom?] Ronstadt herself has indicated that some of her 1970s hits were recorded under considerable pressure to create commercially successful recordings, and that she prefers many of her songs that were non-hit album tracks.[59] An infrequent songwriter, Ronstadt co-composed only three songs over her long career.

In 1976, Ronstadt reached the Top 3 of Billboard's Album Chart and won her second career Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for her third consecutive platinum[98] album Hasten Down the Wind. The album featured a sexy, revealing cover shot and showcased Ronstadt the singer-songwriter, who composed two of its songs, "Try Me Again" (co-authored with Andrew Gold) and "Lo Siento Mi Vida". It also included an interpretation of Willie Nelson's ballad "Crazy", which became a Top 10 Country hit for Ronstadt in early 1977.

Ronstadt was also featured in the 1978 film FM, where the plot involved disc jockeys attempting to broadcast a Ronstadt concert live, without a competing station's knowledge. The film also showed Ronstadt performing the songs "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me", "Love Me Tender", and "Tumbling Dice". Ronstadt was persuaded to record "Tumbling Dice" after Mick Jagger came backstage when she was at a concert and said, "You do too many ballads, you should do more rock and roll songs."[109]

In 1984, Ronstadt and Riddle performed these songs live, in concert halls throughout Australia, Japan, and the United States, including multi-night performances at historic venues Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, and Pine Knob.

At the end of 1987, Ronstadt released Canciones de Mi Padre, an album of traditional Mexican folk songs, or what she has described as "world class songs". Keeping with the Ronstadt history theme, her cover art was dramatic, bold, and colorful; it shows Ronstadt in full Mexican regalia. Her musical arranger was mariachi musician Rubn Fuentes.

Ronstadt recorded two additional albums of Latin music in the early 1990s. Their promotion, like most of her albums in the 1990s, was a quieter affair, with Ronstadt making only a limited number of appearances to promote them. They were not nearly as successful as Canciones De Mi Padre, but were critically acclaimed in some circles. In 1991, she released Mas Canciones, a follow-up to the first Canciones. For this album, she won a Grammy Award for Best Mexican/Mexican-American Album. The following year, she stepped outside of the mariachi genre and decided to record well-known Afro-Cuban songs. This album was titled Frenes. Like her two previous Latin recordings ventures, it won Ronstadt a Grammy Award, this time for Best Traditional Tropical Latin Album.

In 1996, Ronstadt produced Dedicated to the One I Love, an album of classic rock and roll songs reinvented as lullabies. The album reached number 78 in Billboard and won the Grammy Award for Best Musical Album for Children.

In 1998, Ronstadt released We Ran, her first album in over two years. The album harkened back to Ronstadt's country-rock and folk-rock heyday. She returned to her rock 'n' roll roots with vivid interpretations of songs by Bruce Springsteen, Doc Pomus, Bob Dylan, and John Hiatt. The recording was produced by Glyn Johns. A commercial failure, the album stood at 57,897 copies sold at the time of its deletion in 2008. It is the poorest-selling studio album in Ronstadt's Elektra/Asylum catalog. We Ran did not chart any singles but it was well received by critics.

Ronstadt has also appeared on albums by a vast range of artists including Emmylou Harris, the Chieftains, Dolly Parton, Neil Young, J. D. Souther, Gram Parsons, Bette Midler, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Earl Scruggs, the Eagles, Andrew Gold, Wendy Waldman, Hoyt Axton, Kate and Anna McGarrigle, Ann Savoy, Karla Bonoff, James Taylor, Jimmy Webb, Valerie Carter, Warren Zevon, Maria Muldaur, Randy Newman (specifically his musical adaptation of Faust), Nicolette Larson, the Seldom Scene, Rosemary Clooney, Aaron Neville, Rodney Crowell, Hearts and Flowers, Laurie Lewis and Flaco Jimnez. As a singer-songwriter, Ronstadt has written songs covered by several artists, such as "Try Me Again", covered by Trisha Yearwood; and "Winter Light", which was co-written and composed with Zbigniew Preisner and Eric Kaz, and covered by Sarah Brightman.

A farm wife must have a farm husband, right? Mine is named Bill. We met at Cornell, married in my home state of Maine, settled in his home state of New York, and raised two children. Theresa Olin (AKA Diva Daughter) sings with the Houston Symphony Chorus. Her exquisite soprano vocals grace several songs on my YouTube channel. Jeffrey Olin is a digital artist and photographer, whose cartoon illustrations add a lively element to my book Puppet Ministry Pizzazz.

Asher and the A-list players were again on board, as Linda went new wave, including no fewer than three Costello covers and this frenetic number by Billy Steinberg (who was soon to team with Tom Kelly to write songs that would soundtrack the '80s such as 'Like A Virgin' and 'Eternal Flame').

With songs by Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and John Hiatt, it was something of a return to her rock instincts, leavened with soul choices such as Allen Toussaint's fabulously haunting 'Ruler Of My Heart', which was definitively cut in 1963 by Irma Thomas.

Linda's last solo album, and first for Verve, saw her stepping back into the jazz territory of her Nelson Riddle albums of the 1980s, with songs by Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, Frank Loesser and other invincibles.

Also in 2011, Perry, who has launched the labels Rockstar Records and Custard Records, began publishing acoustic cover songs that she recorded at the piano with her iPhone, and in 2014, she appeared in the VH1 reality television show Make or Break: The Linda Perry Project, in which she worked with young musicians.

Though Ronstadt, who was born in Tucson, Arizona, on 15 July 1946, was never a songwriter, she was one of the most astute artists ever when it came to picking the right songs to cover. She recorded brilliant interpretations of songs by Warren Zevon, Neil Young, Elvis Costello, Randy Newman, James Taylor and Jimmy Webb, among many others.

SK: He had a vocal group that had two women and him on piano. And Billy is well-known for his vocal arrangements. He made a comment to me that there were no songs for two women to do. There were loads of duets for a man and a woman. And I said, "Well, let me think about it." So I started working on this idea, and took it to Billy and again, this would have been in about, I don't know, 1981-82. And we wrote it and it was huge in their act. They toured all over the world with their cabaret act. And it was a huge success. People loved the song and they requested it all the time. We knew we had a hit.

Then Billy had started performing it up in New York, and Liza Minnelli heard it, and she wanted to do it. And then Tony Bennett heard it, and wanted to do it with Sinatra. Boy, were we hoping for that: a "Does She Love You" version. And then Reba made a comment to the wonderful Mike Sebastian, who was plugging songs, I believe, at Starstruck at the time. She made a comment to Mike that if she could only find a great female duet, (she'd record it). Mike had previously worked for the publishing company where my half of "Does He Love You" was.

BH: It's one of those songs that speaks to that moment we've all been through, Sandy. I can't imagine the stories, I think (some) people would go, "I didn't want to hear it." And I can hear others going, "I loved it. It helped me get through it." Am I right? 17dc91bb1f
