I've been president of the Game Development Club on campus since 2020, and we try to complete a small game each semester. When the pandemic hit it was really hard to run the club remotely, and we were only able to get some demos completed for our games but it was still a fun experience. During my time in the club we've remade classic games like Galaga and Wii Tanks with our own features and mechanics and we've also made our own adventure themed platformers, and more. We've used Unity and Visual Studio for all our games so I have become quite proficient in C# and some 2D art because of it.
The team uses Agile Scrum practices with 2-3 week sprints and meets twice per week for standup. In the past we've always used Jira to organize tasks for the students, but we've recently switched to Gitlabs.
One of the games I enjoy playing is Smite. It's a MOBA with a large enough player-base to house many amateur tournaments/leagues that are run by volunteer members of the community. Much like the actual pro scene for the game (sponsored by HiRez, the developer of Smite), many of the amateur tournaments try their best to broadcast the games that are played. The problem with these amateur streams is that they do not have the same broadcasting software as the sponsored streams, so their quality may seem significantly less. In order to help with this issue, I decided to develop a highly customizable application that could be used by amateurs to help their broadcasts be of similar quality to the sponsored streams. Examples of this software being used and a download can be found here.
For the past four years I've spent a lot of my free time messing around with Unity to make fun little games. There's only a few of these games worth mentioning, but any released games can be found on my itch.io page. I'm not that good at making 3D models or animation, but I've gotten okay at creating simple pixel art for some simple fun games. I enjoy playing games a lot and I'm finally capable enough to create some interesting game concepts, and I would love to pursue a career in game development, however I just haven't found that opportunity yet.
