LINC-Teaching in a Digital World

This course will focus on best practices and strategies to implement the new NYS Computer Science & Digital Fluency Learning Standards into K-12 classrooms. In this course, participants will explore Computational Thinking, Networks and Systems Design, Digital Literacy, and Impacts of Computing along with several edtech resources and tools that can support the integration of these learning standards into the classroom. This course is appropriate for all K-12 educators.
The content of this course will be delivered through synchronous meetings and asynchronous work in Google Classroom.

LINC-Collaborative Conversations for Mentors

This 6-hour hybrid workshop equips mentors with essential communication skills to foster effective and meaningful dialogues. Combining both synchronous and asynchronous learning methods, this workshop provides a flexible and comprehensive approach to mastering collaborative conversations. Participants will engage in interactive live sessions and self-paced modules to explore key topics such as active listening, constructive feedback, and conflict resolution. By the end of the workshop, mentors will be equipped with practical tools and techniques to build stronger, more supportive relationships with their mentees, enhancing both personal and professional growth.
LINC-NYSTC Students with Disabilities Certification Extension Grades 5-9
Eligible participants must have SWD 1-6 or SWD 7-12 certification and at least 3 years of teaching experience to be eligible for the certification extension.

This course is a New York State Education Department approved course and provides the hours and course content required for certification extension for SWD grades 5-9.
Eligible participants must have SWD 1-6 or SWD 7-12 certification and at least 3 years of teaching experience to be eligible for the certification extension.
This 45 hour course requires synchronous and asynchronous work. The course includes 3 sections, Knowledge of Students, Instructional Strategies, and Professional Practices.

LINC-NYSTC SWD PreK-K Certification Extension (Course 1): Knowledge of Students
Teachers certified in SWD Grades 1-6 with at least three years of teaching experience in grades 1 and/or 2

In June of 2018, NYS approved a new certification pathway for special educators interested in extending their existing certification to address the growing shortage of certified special education teachers in NYS. Special Educators who have an existing NYS Students with Disabilities Generalist Grades 1-6 certification, who are interested in obtaining an extension for grades PK-K, are invited to study this grade band through a three course series: Knowledge of Students (15hrs), Instructional Strategies (15hrs) and Professional Practice (15hrs).
Together, these three courses meet NYSED Special Education CTLE Certification criteria for extending an existing NYS Students with Disabilities Generalist Grades 1-6 certification to include grades PK-K.
Knowledge of Students (Course 1): In this course, teachers will analyze the shifts in physical, emotional, social and cognitive hallmarks of PK-K grade students and understand the implications for students with disabilities, including those that are English Language Learners. Teachers will demonstrate understanding of behavior management and develop tools to teach self-regulation so that students can achieve success in inclusive learning environments. Teachers apply their knowledge of current research in assessment to strengthen skills in writing authentic IEPs that are compliant with NYS guidance and that support students and their teachers in inclusive environments.
The content of this course will be delivered synchronously via Zoom and asynchronous course materials will be delivered through Google Classroom. (You must have a personal Google account to access these materials).
This course provides 15 CTLE hours upon completion. District approval is needed for in-service credit.

Instructional Strategies (Course 2): In this course, teachers will analyze the NYS Next Generation Standards focusing on Reading, Writing and Math at the PK-K grade level and develop lesson plans that use evidence based and developmentally appropriate instructional practices to support student achievement. Teachers will apply their knowledge of this age group, current learning research and technology to demonstrate facility in designing engaging lessons and developing a classroom culture that supports social, emotional, cognitive and linguistic growth for all students.

Professional Practice (Course 3): Professional Practice (Course 3): In this course, teachers will strengthen their skill in building successful professional relationships with their students' families, their paraeducators, related service teams and co-teaching partners that are interactive and supportive of student outcomes. Teachers will understand the fundamental role of transition in IEPs and how to apply their skills as a case manager to create a supportive, informative IEP. Teachers will analyze the role of special educator as a resource and advocate for inclusive communities.
