Before we began production, we were told that Bennett Bay was inspired by a dream of an old couple dancing in an empty train. It had to be a romantic MV. Momofilms' Kris and FindingPictures' Jerrold already had the concept to use these wonderful old bg paintings from public archives. So, not much work was needed for the background except for several illustration additions and colour tweaks for the B&W illustrations. Working on this project was challenging. I had been given the opportunity to lead a small team of undergraduate animators despite my lack of experience.
To make the already beautiful backgrounds work together well, I felt there was a need to incorporate the painterly styles by painting some of the animations frame by frame. We also utilized the natural elements in the paintings by including animated effects on those to get a magical feel. (Water Splashes, Snow, Growing Flowers) With the guidance of Jerrold and Kris, I had provided character designs, styleframes, animation keyframes, animation clean-ups and several fully animated shots for the MV.
