I am Hong Yu, a game programmer with around 4 years of experience in game development.
I actively participate in game jams—including Global Game Jam (2022–2025) and Redgame Game Jam (2023–2024)—to improve my skills through rapid prototyping and teamwork. I am proficient in Unity and experienced with Unreal Engine, with hands-on contributions in tools programming, AI design, visual effects, and project coordination. During university, I completed three team-based game projects.
I previously worked full-time as a Game Programmer at Quurk for 2 years, where I contributed to multiple projects. I am currently working at Beyondsoft Malaysia (Tencent outsourcing) as an SDK Client Developer, supporting and developing the Player Network / Level Infinite SDK used by multiple games.
With extensive experience in Unity and C#, I specialize in developing powerful custom tools to streamline game production and empower design and development teams. In Tekno, I built intuitive rhythm game beat map editors to accelerate level and music sync creation, overcoming limitations of ScriptableObjects by designing interactive GUI tools using Unity’s Editor GUI and UI Toolkit. Across multiple projects, I’ve delivered a wide range of scalable tools—including block puzzle editors, cutscene event emitter, FSM-based UI managers, and custom build pipelines—enabling rapid iteration, automation, and flexibility. My work extends to integrating third-party interpreter scripting languages (MiniScript, PocketPy, BlockEngine2), implementing backend workflows with PlayFab and MongoDB, and crafting token-based code analyzers to support custom scripting environments. My tools programming expertise lies in bridging complex systems with user-friendly interfaces, significantly boosting team productivity and project scalability.

Pastopia is a first-of-its-kind, open-world game experience that rewards players with pure gameplay and the tangible outcome of learning to code with MiniScript and Python. Player will encounter echoes of the past as a Korii, a mysterious Memory Walker who can travel through the landscapes of forgotten memories and restore them. Pastopia was the winner of Level Up KL 2024 Best Technology Award.
In Pastopia, I worked as a generalist game programmer, handling task on tools programming, gameplay mechanics, integrate coding languages, implement in-game code editor that apply auto-completion, UI Structure. I also involved in the development for backend stack such as PlayFab and MongoDB.
In "Tekno," you, as the protagonist DJ Tekno, harness the power of music to combat the oppressive DJ duo BR-3N and BR-4N. With your sentient Speaker companion, SP3-KR, you venture through Ibiza's lively clubs and beyond, challenging the evil DJs in an ideological mix-off to liberate the people from their mind-controlling grasp. Prepare for a thrilling action platformer that combines rhythm, adventure, and a futuristic struggle for freedom and save Ibiza from the sinister clutches of BR-3N and BR-4N.
In Tekno, I am the Tech Lead that handles project management for the programmers. Aside from that, I also actively in development such as tools programming (beat map editors), Rhythm Game Architecture, Behaviour Tree AI, Dialogue System, and Game Level Design for 3rd Section of the game as well.
