Every super hero needs a side kick! Aiden plays that role for Lily. Aiden is Lily's big brother/cheerleader/protector/hand holder/shot day calendar manager/side kick. He has been there for Lily every step of the way on this journey. It can be really hard being the sibling of a child with JIA. Aiden has to deal with Lily getting lots of extra attention, being drug along to lots of doctors appointments, and the worry of seeing someone he loves in pain . Aiden never complains about any of it and is the first person to give Lily extra love when she needs it. Here are a few words from Aiden...
My name is Aiden and I am 10 years old. My sister has JIA. I think it's upsetting that people think that only adults get arthritis, but that's not true. My sister was diagnosed when she was only three years old. It makes me sad because every Saturday she has to get shots and she always cries. After every shot, I shake one of her legs because it helps the pain. I also play music and dance with her to distract her from the pain.
When Lily first got diagnosed, I didn't even know what arthritis was. When I went to the Juvenile Arthritis Conference, I learned so much. That's why I want to raise money for arthritis research.
