Over 8 weeks of hands-on, in-the-field experience, I have received valuable feedback from my peers, project manager, project director, and community partners. I have taken their feedback and made conscious efforts to integrate it into my work in order to become a better environmental educator.
One piece of feedback I received was in my ability to positively engage with students throughout our time together. I was able to create a warm and welcoming environment where students felt comfortable sharing their experiences and asking their curious questions without fear of judgment.
I also received positive feedback in regards to my ability to embed the instructions of an activity inside a story. I was able to put all the pieces of information into an interactive and engaging story where students learned expectations and had fun.
I also received constructive feedback in areas that I am continuing to develop and work on. For example, I noticed my students still had many questions concerning nature journaling, and only after being given the advice to model the activity for them did they start to better understand what I was asking of them.
Overall, the feedback I received during this project has made me a more well-rounded educator, and I am grateful to all who have worked with me to make this the best experience possible for these students. I have been able to reflect on my teaching style and have found the value in promoting justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in my lessons. I hope to continue to grow as an environmental educator.
