Me and Art

Art was indispensable to my life ever since I could hold a pen. Drawing, painting, doodling... I grew up with a sharp perception of color and form, thus was often showered by adults' praise about how my pieces had a "naturalistic" look at such a young age. So, like any other child, I let compliments direct me and continued on this naturalistic style.

However, around when I was 13 years old, I gradually became dissatisfied with just religiously copying details from a photograph. Along with more exposure to and a better understanding of art history, I started to search for more meaning behind my pieces. What was I making this piece for? What do I want to tell? Those were questions I didn't know the answers to, and I can't quite say I'm in any better position today either.

Nevertheless, these thoughts elevated my relationship with art to a more intimate and philosophical level. Now I love to read art history and compare what different artists think about art. It fuels me forward on my own journey.
