Are the sketches originals?
They are copied from photographs so the images are not new, but essentially they are originals as sketches. Hand drawn and rendered depending on how I see the moment in a photo. They are sold as prints or cards so that you can taylor the size to suit your needs and there is no degradation of the charcal in transport. Custom sketches will only be available to you, but my own series may be reproduced.
How are they supplied?
The prices here are just for quality A3 sized paper prints. They come on standard white copy stock lightly spray mounted on to a card backing to keep it secure and flat. This all keep costs affordable and avoids the plasticised photo papers.
What are the framing options?
Due to the individual wall spaces and colour schemes in people's homes it makes sense to leave framing options open!
The easiest option would be to simply drop the print and backing into a standard A3 poster frame. Most retail frames will come with a matt (card border) and you should be able to pop it in and hang it fairly straightforward. Spotlight and Briscoes A3 frames start at $20. White and black are good options. I'd love to see how and where they all end up if you do this, send me a photo!
If you're not inclined to go and buy one, check it fits, and possibly trim the matt, I can do this for you for the cost of the frame and extra postage. As stock and cost are quite unpredictable at the moment I have taken my basic framed options off the website. For now, it's best to communicate about the style and availability first! Just contact me and we can discuss your needs and budget and come up with a plan and estimate.
For a more professional framing job, I totally recommend either of the following: Frame n copy near Brighton, and Ronlad Mottram near Moorhouse and Durham st. Both places have excellent staff and great taste and patience to get it just right for you. To make professional framing options versatile, the prints can actually peel off the card backing. I also leave the backing oversize so framers can trim as needed. It means when you receieve them they look a bit unfinished, but this allows the framers the extra material and flexibility they need to work with.
What does postage cost if I can't pick up?
It will vary of course depending on number of prints, location and any framing added! I have found I can usually mail a single, unframed, well wrapped A3 print within NZ for around $7. It takes nearly as long to pack and mail them as it does to sketch them so I estimate most shipping charges out at $9. For framed prints it is hard to estimate the amount untill it is weighed at the post office, but I will get an estimate from the post office, pass the direct cost on to you and we can agree by email prior.
Why are the cards tied with funny bows and string?
I was determined to find a way to package seurely without using plastics. The ribbons and strings were all lovingly saved from birthday and christmas presents. I want to minimise the footprint as much as possible and do what I can avoid consuming brand new product where it's not needed. Feel free to on use them!
Do you use eco friendly card?
ALL products are available printed on recycled stock and cost the same. It gives a different look and I love that the local printers make this an option. Be sure to let me know when ordering if this is important to you - it is to me too. For the first run of gift cards I did do a mixture of stock as the sustainable option didn't stand up as well due it being unavailable in the right thickness at the time. In future I intend to move to recycled stock as a standard and you would have to request the white.
