So to start, I have my house lights programmed into cues (cue list 1 in the default state) However, during Tech, Pre-Show Check, Post-Show Shut-down I want my House Lights to remain on. (Sometimes students and volunteers who have never used the ION are running shows, so while Parking and Macros are options, they are not as simple as throwing a sub up) So if I put Ch. 300 (House Lights) on a Sub at FULL, here's the list of what I want/don't-want the sub to do and the problem with each.

3) When sub is up, House Lights to stay on when I'm playing back an asserted cue [Solution: Make sub Independent | however, this breaks expected HTP/LTP behavior. Because the Sub is in independent, it has control even ch 300 is at full in the cue. So taking the sub up to 1% cause the house lights to drop to 1% even though they are at 100% in the Cue. Anne explained this is because all subs/cues in Independent Priority only look at other Independent things for HTP/LTP. So once that sub rises above 0%, it takes control immediately dropping House Lights]

4) When Ch. 300 is at full in the cue, for the sub to not to take control (basically act like HTP) [Solution: make the Independent Sub, LTP... which I can't explain why this works, but it basically now acts like HTP, when I take the sub down it immediately return controls to the cue which has a higher intensity | Problem is, now the sub is LTP, so running a cue normal or asserted, ch. 300 goes to cue control while I'm running through cues during pre-show check, which usually takes House Lights out. so now I return to #2 above ]

Side Note: I've rarely run into this problem before because I haven't needed to use Multiple Cue List and asserted cues frequently, but now that I'm using Midi more frequently and with upcoming OSC, I like to check those connections by firing cues.... but I don't want to plunge Ushers and others into darkness.

If your system has a network connection to the dimmers you can run sACN, Net2 and ArtNet as well as DMX. (depending on what the dimmers can take in) By then patching 2 channels to different protocols you can completely bypass the console rules. In short the dimmers act as a simple HTP merger.

you can (mostly) change subtitles to display as light grey, etc. when loading a video, which will help you save your eyeballs, but only after enough time passes for your vision to return to you first.

Since it is not possible to change the color or format of PGS subtitles it would be incredible helpful if one could change the brightness of them, being able to dim them. So if the subtitles are white or too bright they look more like gray. Bright subtitles look very bad and distracting in dark scenes.

When watching SDR content with normal levels of brightness, gray subtitles, for example, look dim as they should, however using the same subtitle setting in HDR returns way brighter subtitles. There should be a way to change the opacity of both subtitles independently, so both SDR and HDR have different settings.

I recently bought a TCL RokuTV. After playing around with it, I liked the Roku interface overall and also got a Streaming Stick 4K+ to use on an older TV that we have with the option of bringing it along when travelling and using it on hotel TVs.

However, when we finally got around watching a foreign series and tried to get subtitles (the app/channel uses the Roku system captions), it was a complete fiasco!

The fonts used for captions are licensed from and are designed to have the full range of characters needed to handle the EIA-608 and CEA-708 caption systems while being quite legible. Most Roku devices don't have the space in system memory needed to have a large selection of fonts beyond those required by federal regulations.

Your topic is exactly the same as what I had in mind, mainly because of the color of the subtitles (the subtitle should be white and not gray) and also in relation to the font and shading (outline)...

I'm from Brazil and I watch a lot with subtitles and in apps that use the Roku system subtitles... Please update here when you have news. Thanks!

It's unbelievable that in 3 years no one at Roku team reserve 5 minutes to work on a REAL White subtle and a better font family or at least Bold options... I buy a 50' TV and can't read subtitles just because nobody of Roku team gives a shi...

When watching a show in Netflix / crunchyroll with subtitles, the brightness flicks up when subs are on the screen and then back down again when the subtitles disappear. It is particularly bad if it is a dark scene. With subtitles turned off this obviously doesn't occur

It appears that subtitles are overlaid over the motion picture as a second top layer, which seems to conflict with the contrast of the first layer. Therefore, if a screenshot or screen recording was attempted, only the subtitles would be captured and not the motion picture.

Unless one of the users here has seen this problem happen and seen it go away after a system update, how could we answer you? (We are just users of Apple equipment trying to help each other. Nobody here has access to Apple's internal bug tracking.)

I don't use either app, and I've never noticed the symptom you describe on similar apps I do use, so how could I check whether the behavior has changed? Even if I tested one of those apps (or the other apps mentioned in some of the articles to which you linked) and did not see it, how would I know if that's due to changes to software or my inability to notice the phenomenon you describe?

I'm having problems while playing movies fullscreen with subtitles on my new notebook. When a subtitle appears on screens, the screen brightness changes, and then returns normal when the subtitle goes away. This problem gets reduced if I change subtitle's color to very dark colors, but if I set subtitles border color as blue or red, brightness has a big variation.

Right-click the Start button > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Balanced (or whichever plan you are using) - Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > Display > Enable adaptive brightness > "Off" > Apply > OK

The Bitdefender Antivirus had caused this problem by it's Active Profiles feature. These Active profiles changed power mode to High performance and increased screen brightness to the max while playing videos or playing games.

Pay close attention to when he says: "i cant handle her". When the subtitle appears, the area above black bar brightens and then dims down. Is this normal? I have seen this happening in a lot in many HDR movies. Netflix and Amazon prime show subtitles in the lower middle section of the screen and the subtitles have borders around them so not so much of a problem. But movies played through usb or streamed subtitles on black bars shows the problem.

It happens when the subtitle is displayed in black bar area only. if I move the position of the subtitle above black bar, it is fine. I have tried turning motion, local dimming and contrast enhancer off, but no improvement. I have tested playing this movie using Samsung own player, through fire stick and through apple TV, same behavior with all these devices. I think it needs fixing? or what can we do about it?

When watching content with black bars, the TV dims the part of the picture close to the black bars too much.

So when subtitles appear in the black bar area, the whole bottom part of the picture suddenly brightens.

Got the same issue on 2020 QE75Q950T 8K QLED. Especially when using internal apps this issue is very visible with every overlay text or playback bar that is shown, e.g. with Netflix app. When watching Netflix using my NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV via HDMI, it is a lot better, but also peak brightness is lower then.

I found having Gamemode turned on even for movies reduced the stuttering and made the overall picture brighter for me in HDR Content. Subtitle dimming is a issue i can't fix. Would be a flawless TV otherwise.

Could you all make sure you've updated to the latest software version? On another thread, they stated that after updating the issue was fixed. Check out that thread here: -subtitle-dimming-finally-fixed/td-p/2089586

It happens when the subtitles are in the black bar. The lower part of the film (above the black bar) flashes bright and then dims down again. Every time anyone speaks. It's incredibly distracting. Some films/scenes are worse than others.

Edit: it's probably because the dimming algorithm darkens the lower part of the image to prevent black border blooming. Whenever a subtitle pops in it toggles back into 16:9 mode, lighting up the whole row of dimming zones.

That's nice. I live in a country where everyone watches with translation subs so I won't be able to sell a brand new TV anywhere near its purchase price without getting angry calls back. First and last samsung. I should have read forums instead of reviews.

*Edit: Ive looked closer and it also appears inside the program, although more subtle. The options Ive selected for subtitles are "open subtitles". I havent put any effects on the video or the subtitles.

Also, I always like to throw out the recommendation that you make subtitles with the Essential Graphics tool rather than the Captions tool unless you actually need to work with sidecar files. Maybe that doesn't apply here, but if you have no need to work with .srt's, then in my opinion you don't need to hamstring yourself with the captions tool.

Im quite the newbie and I havent found an option to change the way of encoding. I have, however, fixed the problem by exporting the vid without compression. I dont know why this fixed it. Afterwards I converted the vid to mp4 with another software and still... not the same problem as exporting directly to mp4. 152ee80cbc
