"Light It Up?"
What it means
What it means
What is "Light It Up?"
"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16).
"Light It Up" is a verbal phrase that involves shining the "light" God has given each and every Christian to spread the hope of the Gospel. It involves "glorifying your Father" to let everyone know the good news of God and Jesus Christ.
What is the "light?"
"When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, 'I am the light of the world'" (John 8:12).
Jesus Christ! The good news--the hope of salvation--is the "light!" We were once in darkness, but now have "the light of life" (John 8:12) through what Jesus Christ has done (John 3:16).
How do I "shine?"
“'You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.'" (Matthew 5:14-15).
You shine your light by being the city on a hill and putting the light on a stand. You make it KNOWN. You make sure anyone and everyone knows what the light is, an how to get it.
Jesus told us that we were the light through Him. He told us to show it. He told us to Light It Up.
