The LIFT Up Attendance program, as well as accompanying tools, resources, training, and ongoing support, will be provided to districts at no cost. LIFT Up Attendance will integrate directly with your student information system (SIS) for quick and easy implementation. The NCRERN program team will support participating districts to set up the LIFT Up Attendance for their students.
Students within each district will be randomly selected to either receive or not receive the messages during the 2022-23 year. By piloting—that is, delivering an intervention to a randomly selected portion of target audience rather than every student in it—NCRERN can better determine whether a strategy is having a positive impact on students’ outcomes. Many ideas that sound good on paper may not benefit students in practice, so piloting an intervention allows a district to determine which innovative ideas truly make a difference. Piloting also limits the risk of trying new interventions and allows schools to learn about implementation challenges and make changes before delivering new interventions to all students. Participating districts will have the option to offer LIFT Up Attendance messages to all students in their district starting in fall 2023.
LIFT Up Attendance program will be pilot tested for the entire 2022-23 school year. We will provide participating districts with research results and recommendations by Fall 2023 so districts can determine whether to offer the LIFT Up Attendance program to all students in 2023-24.
While you test a promising evidence-based intervention, you’ll also receive:
Initial training from the NCRERN team about how to implement the LIFT Up Attendance messaging program in your district.
A report that provides insight into the patterns of attendance rates in rural districts.
Individual support as needed throughout the duration of implementation from NCRERN.
Opportunities to collaborate with other rural districts also implementing the LIFT Up Attendance.
An opportunity to connect with rural partner districts in the NCRERN network and attend NCRERN professional learning events.
LIFT Up Attendance pilot districts will be given first priority to participate in other NCRERN pilot projects that focus on postsecondary readiness.
Your district may be eligible to participate in our 2022-23 pilot if you:
Serve students in a rural community
Can commit a small amount time for 1-2 staff member to initiate LIFT Up Attendance messages once per month and respond to caregivers' follow up and requests for support
