K-Town

K-Town is considered to consist of the western region of North Lawndale, West Garfield Park, Little Village, and West Humboldt Park in Chicago. The area has earned its nickname "K-Town" due to the various street names that start with the letter "K".

In the 1950s, there was a surge of "white greaser gangs" that began to populate the area. A decade later, Chicago saw a black migration into the neighborhoods. This migration lead to a large departure of many white inhabitants residing in K-Town and its surrounding areas.

The West Side of Chicago is the birthplace of many racial minority gangs. These gangs were originally created for protection against racial attacks as the number of Black Americans migrating to the area began to increase.

Over time more Black and Latinx gangs also began to appear in the area. As numbers grew and areas were taken over by one group or another, K-Town became known for the violence in the area. In the 1980s and 1990s, the area also saw an influx in drug sale and usage.

Currently, K-Town has a more prominent population of Gangster Disciples.
