Triggers and understanding what can intensify our pain
One of the most helpful things we can learn when living with chronic pain is that our pain often has patterns! What triggers one person may not trigger another, and sometimes several triggers happen together.
The goal isn’t to blame ourselves or avoid everything that might cause pain. Instead, it’s to become better at recognizing our individual warning signs, understanding our triggers, and responding to our bodies with compassion.
LIFE TO THE FULLEST
AGENDA SEPTEMBER 26, 2026
SELF COMPASSION
Self compassion means treating yourself with the same kindness, understanding, and care that you would offer to someone you love who is going through a difficult situation.
When we’re living with pain, self-compassion means:
Acknowledging that we’re hurting instead of pretending we are fine.
Being kind to ourselves rather than criticizing ourselves for our limitations.
Recognizing that we’re not alone–suffering and difficult days are a part of being human.
Giving ourselves permission to have needs, rest, ask for help, and adjust our expectations.
Accepting ourselves as we are today, rather than constantly comparing ourselves with who we used to be.
Self-compassion is giving ourselves the kindness and understanding we would give to someone else who is hurting.
Self-compassion isn’t self pity! Self pity says “why is this happening to me?” Self-compassion says “this is really hard–and I deserve kindness while I’m going through it.”
