Janice Marchman
Thanks for stopping by. I'm Janice Marchman. I live in Loveland, CO, with my hubby, two teens, and my dog. Here is my life in a nutshell:
I lived my childhood as a USAF brat. My Dad was a B-53 pilot. We moved every 2-3 years. My Mom stayed home with my brother and me. I lived in 14 different houses before graduating from Valdosta High School in south Georgia in 1991.
I was always in the gifted and talented programs as a student and loved Math!
I studied Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech and earned my degree in 1996. I met my husband, Mike, in a class at Tech. We loved live music,
Mike and I married and started our family in Sonoma, California. I worked as an engineer for 6 years before staying home to raise kids for 13 years.
We moved our family to Loveland, CO, in 2004 and have made this our home. I stayed home with my two kids for 13 years. During that time, I became a school board member and publie school enthusiast.
I returned to engineering in 2015 for a short time and found the demands of a BIG job at a high-tech company didn't combine easily with being the kind of Mom and wife I wanted to. I got my teaching credential in Elementary Education and Secondary Math Education (grades 7-12). I began teaching at Bill Reed Middle School in 2017 and have been there since. I teach Gifted and Talented, Computers and Math.
During my time raising and teaching teens, I have learned a lot about them and also a lot from them. These kids truly are going to change our world for the better. Have hope! They're loving, smart, and sensible.
My goal here is to share my life for "amens" and "me toos." Parenting, marriage, teaching, life are so full of complications - I find it best to sit with the feelings and share the humor. "Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile."
I have come up with an easy system for kids to solve math problems without having to write anything extra - Math it Fast. I am releasing a digital curriculm to improve confidence and competence in foundational math skills for students in grades 4-8 and taking Algebra or Geometry this school year. I can't wait to get to know you and share the highs and lows with you. Hop in my DM or comments anytime. I always try to respond!
