Maybe you've been asking yourself what kind of coach you should get for yourself and how to find one that is right for you. Do you actually need one? You sure can work on your goals on your own, and that's ok. You'll probably find a way to get there eventually. But can you afford to waste time? Can you afford to take several times longer to reach your goal? When you think of people who are doing exceptionally well in their field, most of them have had coaches, life coaches, and mentors. Why, because a coach will help you see your blind spots, a coach will give you the feedback you would not get otherwise, a coach will help you find a better and faster way to progress. 1) What do I need a life coach for?
You want to look for a coach that would be the best qualified and experienced to help you achieve your goals and overcome the obstacles you're facing. If you want to pull your life together in general and you want to work on several different areas, then a life coach is a great choice. However, sometimes what you actually need is an expert or a mentor. If you need to make progress in your career, look for a career coach. If you need to improve your confidence, look for a confidence coach. If you need to improve your health and fitness, look for a wellness or fitness coach. Do you get the idea?
2) Do you want to work with a life coach face to face or online/phone?
Many people to work with their life coach face to face as they find it more personal. If that's you, I suggest you search on google map or search "life coach in london." I personally live in London, UK, and about 50% of my clients are from London. They want to see me face to face. However, if you live in a distant area or for personal reasons you prefer to be coached more anonymously, then finding a life coach who works online or over the phone will be easy. You can work with anyone around the world.
3) How much do you want to/can invest in yourself?
Whether your budget for coaching is $50 and a month or $5000 (or more), you can find a life coach in that range. Generally speaking, more experienced coaches charge more. So, get the best one you can afford. With that said, more expensive doesn't always mean better OR better for you. You may benefit more from getting a less expensive coach and have sessions weekly rather than one session a month with one expensive one.
4) Do you connect with your coach?
Because you'll typically work with your coach for some time, you want to make sure you're getting along really well. It's important to maintain professional boundaries as if you become friends it will compromise the effectiveness of the coaching because your friend coach will not push you as hard and you'll also expect him to cut you a bit of slack as well. Even if you get along with your coach extremely well, see him or her as your coach.
5) Does the coach have the right coaching approach?
There are many coaches out there, and every single one has a slightly different coaching style and approach. On one end of the spectrum, you'll find coaches who are extremely gentle, loving, caring, and soft in their approach. On the other end, you'll find life coaches who are very strong and assertive or even bossy. Either method can be very effective. It just depends on what you want. Keep in mind that the life coaching approach you like is not always the one that will be the most effective with you. Find a life coach who will have the right coaching approach for you.
