Ice Skating Facility in Delta Junction, Alaska
The Liewer Olmstead Ice Arena in Delta Junction, Alaska is a city-owned skating facility, managed by volunteers from the Delta Skating Association. The facility consists of two main rinks, one outdoor and one enclosed, with heated locker rooms, bathrooms and upstairs viewing room. The outdoor rink is supported by a small, heated warming building.
Ice is available during winter months, usually November - March. In the summer, the facility is used for basketball, roller blading and more.
The Liewer Olmstead enclosed rink is open for public skate during the winter months on Sundays from 2-5PM. No sticks or pucks, helmets are recommended. We do have some ice skates available for use inside the locker rooms. No fee is required but donations are appreciated. Cold weather cancellation temperature is -20F at 9am in Delta.
The enclosed rink is open for Community Skates Sundays 2-5PM. Hockey and skating programs are also available through Delta Skating Association (DSA). The enclosed rink is run by volunteers.
The outdoor rink is open to the public. The Delta High School hockey team clears snow from the rink, and the youth hockey organization (DSA) provides zamming. Lights are available on a timer button for nighttime use.
Delta kids learn to skate on the "little ice" a mini rink inside the rink building. Volunteers from DSA maintain this rink.
The skate shack is open to the public during the ice season. Volunteers from the youth hockey organization (DSA) clean and maintain the skate shack, the city provides heat and utilities.
