Lies of P FULL UNLOCKED Video Game Free Download Repacklab, When we’re turning classic children’s stories into dark, twisted Bloodborne pseudo-sequels, you know we’ve entered a new era in the increasingly crowded soulslike arms race, but hey: here we are. Yes, Lies of P is another game inspired by the dark and unforgiving FromSoftware masterpieces that have captured the hearts of many (including mine), but it’s also an undeniably impressive standout among a sea of games chasing the soulslike trend. It has some uneven difficulty and overly linear level design, but it has an impressive storey, extremely well-tuned combat, and memorable areas and boss fights, so it’s not one to pass up. It’s true that Lies of P sometimes mimics its inspiration so closely that it feels as if someone else is pulling its strings a little too forcefully, but that puppet show is still a lot of fun to watch. It’s both a compliment and a criticism to say that Lies of P follows the blueprint pioneered by FromSoftware to the letter, with very few deviations. The UI and menus are eerily similar to any soulslike you’ve ever played, the aesthetic is nearly identical to Bloodborne, and combat is a methodical dance of attacks and parries designed for difficulty.
It sticks so closely to the script that I’d meet a seemingly friendly character and think, “Ah, this is the one who’s going to betray me later,” with full confidence that I was correct. There’s even a major boss with the same name and rough appearance as a Dark Souls boss, which is actually quite amusing. To attempt a Soulslike, I believe a game developer must be quite brave. The fact that they’re still called Soulslikes after nearly a decade and a half (and certainly longer than it took for “Doom clones” to become first-person shooters) is probably a sign. FromSoftware just keeps churning out top-tier examples of a genre they invented, as well as follow-ups in Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Elden Ring, each with their own distinct variations on the core template, so daring aspirants to the throne really need a unique selling point. The Surge has near-future sci-fi stylings, Nioh leans into character action game combat, and Jedis Fallen Order and Survivor combine Uncharted-esque traversal with a touch of seventies movie licence. Lies of P, a new contender, has, um, puppets.
Okay, it’s more than that; it’s a retelling of the classic children’s storey Pinocchio. I’m not going to call it grimdark or anything, because the original was pretty grim, and the Disney movie terrified me as a kid, giving me some recurring whale-based nightmares. It’s more of a reimagining aimed at “people who think overpriced knock-off shirts of gothed-up Disney characters are cool.” I’ve got American McGee from Y2K on the line. This is not even the first Eurocentric soulslike with murderous marionettes! Steelrising, which has a bizarre number of things in common with Lies of P, from its mechanical enemies gone mad to its trendy and historical urban setting, was reviewed almost exactly one year ago. Thankfully, Lies of P is a much better game that stands out in other ways, but it doesn’t exactly get high marks for originality. One way it stands out is in its storey, which is a dark reimagining of Carlo Collodi’s Pinocchio – a storey about a mischievous puppet known for telling lies and yearning to become a real boy. Lies of P’s version of the classic tale takes a lot of liberties in its much more gory and depressing version, but it has some nice nods to its inspiration, including an untrustworthy cat and fox and a neat mechanic where you have to choose whether to tell lies or the truth (which have an impact on the outcome of your adventure).
This genre isn’t known for having the most comprehensible stories, and Lies of P isn’t an exception, but it tries harder than most. Instead of just a loose collection of vagaries and hints in item descriptions, there’s a lot of dialogue and cutscenes that kept my interest throughout my first 30-hour run. Indeed, of all the disturbing and enigmatic stories I’ve seen in this genre, this is one of my favourites – not quite as relatable and polished as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, but certainly more approachable than your Bloodbornes or Dark Souls. It has some interesting twists and turns, as well as a few memorable characters, such as the self-obsessed socialite Venigni, who made me want to speak in an over-the-top Italian accent all the time.
You’ll spend your time hacking your way through levels where practically everything in sight wants to kill you and taking on much more formidable bosses, and Lies of P nails both of those genre pillars admirably. Krat is a memorable and dystopian city that constantly reminds you that you’re acting out an iconic fairytale about puppets.
It includes your cricket sidekick Gemini and your puppet-making father Gepetto, who always reminds you to be a good boy before sending you on missions to butcher everyone in your path. You’ll see a puppet graveyard that serves as a kind of poison swamp level that every soulslike is required to have, as well as an exhibition hall filled with hopeful depictions of a future that clearly didn’t go as planned.
