Hello Cedar Trails Teachers!
Welcome back! I hope you all had the most excellent, restful summer break. I'm so thankful to work with such gifted, caring teachers. This year, inspired by Adam Rex's "Unstoppable!", kids are encouraged to be unstoppable readers. Please visit the "Unstoppable" tab on this wiki to learn more about our ongoing reading challenge. I am THRILLED to say that we are 99% sure that Adam Rex himself will be our zoom author visit for Read Across America in March! Stay tuned for more information!
Like last year, you can expect a new update the first week of each month. Please know, that even though I plan a month ahead, my plans are FLEXIBLE- if you have a story/skill taught, or just need students to use their library visit to help with a class assignment, I am happy to accommodate. Just be sure to give me at least 24 hrs' notice. :) My school website has information on policies and procedures, so please check the link out to learn more about how many books students can check out or when to return them to the library. Students grades 1-3 will not check out the first week of school and Kindergarten students will not check out until the last week of September.
While the ISD libraries operate on a fixed schedule, I am more than happy to have classes use the library for buddy reading or to have access to iPads and the other resources in the library that would be helpful in completing an assignment or simply have a student return a book and get a new one. Once our schedules are finalized, I will send out the library schedule and you will notice "open library" times each day. During these times you will find me in the library, happy to help students and staff. I will be sending out library passes (two per classroom), this way when a student comes to Open Library, I know that you know where they are.
Book Return:
Each classroom should have a BLUE ROLLING CART. These will be your library return bins. All students should return their books the morning of their library day and books should be brought to the library no later than 9:30 am. Teachers typically assign a library helper to bring the books to the library and will give those students their keycard so they can have access to the library if they are on the 1st or 3rd floors.
Finally, this wiki will also provide book recommendations and other helpful links and resources for teachers throughout the year. I am YOUR librarian, always here to help in any way I can.
Wishing you happy, back-to-school vibes,
Julianna
