About Us

In 2019, Jake Gutteridge & Tarant Hobbs of Hertfordshire, England established Tree Fun Facts, an educational project with the goal of providing a central resource for anyone to educate themselves on the subject of trees. The website explores a mix of historical, mythological, religious, and scientific perspectives, allowing visitors to better understand the true value of trees to the world and to humanity.

In 2026, Tree Fun Facts was expanded from a simple website into a global movement – the League for the International Appreciation of Trees (LIAT). By creating this organisation, we aim to raise awareness of the importance of trees and encourage anyone to use Tree Fun Facts as an educational resource, so that a general environmental education on the subject is available in a single place, rather than the daunting prospect of having to research through many websites and books.

We believe that, this way, a much larger number of people around the world will find it more accessible to begin learning about the subject of trees from a wide variety of perspectives, allowing them to appreciate their value to the world and to humanity. All of our resources are completely free and open to everyone. 

Additionally, we aim to carry out ambitious educational initiatives to help children understand how trees are important to the world around them, and encourage the wider population to spend more time around trees, taking advantage of the many physical and mental health benefits they offer to us. To do this, we need to collaborate with other organisations around the world, pool our resources, and help each other, as we are a non-profit organisation purely focused on creating the conditions for the advancement of environmental education worldwide.

Although based in the UK, our projects have a universal appeal and aim to benefit all of humanity by increasing knowledge and understanding of the nature around us.
