My name is Liam Almekinder, and I'm beginning my Ph.D. in organic chemistry. Studying chemistry (and organic chemistry in particular) has been really rewarding and satisfying to me to better understand how the world operates at the molecular level. I'm particularly passionate about reaction development and understanding the mechanisms behind how carbon-based molecules react. My interests lie in the region of physical organic chemistry, synthesis, and catalysis.
This photo is terrible and I will replace it soon when I get a professional headshot :)
I am now beginning my Ph.D. at Cornell University, in organic chemistry. This is the start of a grand adventure, and I look forward to finding a research group, teaching undergraduates, and enjoying my coursework!
I recently graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) with my Bachelors in Chemistry, where I did research under Dr. Jeremy Cody in the preparations of thiazole orange derivatives and other complex methine dyes. RIT is where I learned how to cut my teeth on problems and understand what research is like!
Outside of the lab, I'm an avid cyclist and saxophonist. I love bicycle touring, being outside in all seasons, and exploring new places!
