Application Process

APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR HAVE CLOSED MARCH 10th. PLEASE APPLY NEXT YEAR.

Thank you for the interest in joining NHS. NHS is a merit-based club that takes pride in having all members exhibit scholarship, service, character, and leadership. In order to qualify for an invitation, one must have and maintain an un-weighted GPA of 3.75. Below are the steps of the application process.

1.  If a student has a cumulative GPA of 3.75, near the end of their sophomore year, they will be sent an invitation to apply to NHS. Note that this also applies to juniors who are not already in the club. Freshmen will not be invited to join the club.

2. Upon receiving the invitation, a student must get an application form from one of our two sponsors.

3. Those applying must complete all parts of the application. As was aforementioned, NHS members must exhibit scholarship, service, character, and leadership. All of these traits are assessed in some way on the application. The parts of the application are as follows:

A) The first part of the application involves listing all recent extracurricular activities and volunteering experiences.

B) The second part of the application involves two teacher letters of recommendation. One must give the recommendation form to the teacher ahead of time and they will submit it to the NHS sponsors themselves.

C) The third part of the application involves responding to two essay prompts which deal with service outside of school and character and leadership in NHS.

The application will also have a rubric on the back to show how the application is being holistically graded. The application's deadline is absolute, and no applications submitted after this date will be accepted.

4. The two sponsors spend the next few weeks grading the applications on this rubric. If a student's rubric score is greater than or equal to a pre-determined score, then the student will be accepted into NHS. All applicants will be informed of their status around a month after applying.

5. The last step in joining NHS is an induction ceremony. More information is given to those accepted into NHS.

Please email Sra. Tyler or Ms. Blyth if you have any questions. They will not respond to inquiries asking to join NHS unless the student received an invitation.
