A long time ago in a galax--wait that's not right--it was a while ago but nearby actually, when I started my teaching career, but this is only my 4th year at Lafayette. While I was proud to join General Nation then, I was more taken with the real sense of community here at Lafayette. Quickly I thought about what I could offer to help grow that community. Then someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse: start a Film Club.
Films have long been a passion of mine since watching E.T. phone home as a kid, through studying why Rosebud captivated audiences at UK, and now teaching why T'Challa's journey is more than just a blockbuster in my English classes. Film Club now offers me a chance to share that passion but most importantly helps students come together in a way that does not judge; whether you enjoy Marvel movies, B-horror, or the latest Oscar Nominees. Frankly my dear reader, we don't give a--woah, keep it classy Rhett--darn what you like, as long as it's films (and yes Marty, we consider them all films).
Basically we accept anyone interested in Film Club, including those daring enough to make them. Hence our Film Making Club, which aims to work with the unique technical and creative elements that make films possible, and special. I am excited to see where both clubs are headed this year because films have taught us that by joining together, we can rule the galax--
If you enjoy watching movies with friends or discussing films like critics, you may have a fun time with Film Club!
We've held movie nights on Netflix Party and in the school library, as well as started our own Discord server (link in footer) to keep in touch during these times! Interested to see some pictures of us in action? Check out our Photos page!
