Set in South Carolina in 1964, Bees tells the story of Lily Owens, a fourteen-year-old girl whose life has been shaped around the vague memory of the day her mother was killed. Traveling with Rosaleen, her “stand-in mother,” Lily chooses to leave her abusive father and escape to Tiburon, a town with connections to her mother’s past.
