About Me
About Me
Hello! My name is Hayley Munn. I am a Visual Artist originally from Miami, Florida who has lived and worked in many places including Washington, D.C. , Paris and Perpignan, France, Providence, Rhode Island and in various parts of Florida.
I am a passionate Artist and Educator with many interests and hobbies. While I am an enthusiast of many subjects areas, with academic pursuits in French, Literature and Art History, I consider myself first and foremost, a Visual Artist. After all, Art encompasses all other subject matter. "Art" really "is life," as is famously said. Further, it has been a pivotal lens through which I have lead my life from my earliest years.
As for my Fine Arts background, I was introduced to creating before I can even remember, thanks to my mother who is also an artist and teacher. Since middle school, I worked primarily 2-dimensionally in Drawing and Painting, frequently taking Ceramics and Pottery classes for fun whenever possible. To this day, I am always learning new techniques and processes and integrating new materials into my body of work to further develop myself as an artist and as a teacher. I participate in community Art classes, workshops and studios where ever I go. Working in collaboration with other artists is an integral part of my own practice.
More recently tasked with teaching different types of Art in Public Schools, my artistic practice continues to expanded beyond the more traditional representational work from earlier on in my career. Although I continue to draw and paint subjects from everyday life, I am increasingly fascinated with depicting more abstract subject-matter, especially in the form of mixed-media collage. For me, it is a form of Art Meditation.
However cliche, being an artist and a teacher is profoundly linked to who I am and to how I live my life. I create and share what I am learning with my students and colleagues from a need to so do, originating from a Source much larger and wiser than me . Art grounds me in the present moment and it connects me to others, however similar or different. Art, as a practice, ultimately transforms "the ordinary" into the "extraordinary," encouraging us all to appreciate all that we already have, within and around us, each and every day.
