Greetings, ECO200 Summer class!
I’m Lawrence Hsu, your Tutorial TA for the entire course. I’m currently a Ph.D. student in Economics at the University of Toronto, majoring in Public Economics (how to evaluate policies fairly) and minoring in Industrial Organization (how firms behave when they are being firms).
My main area is Health Economics, especially economic evaluation methodologies: how we fairly translate health states, medical outcomes, and policy impacts into monetary values. Before joining UofT, I worked at Johns Hopkins University & Medicine in several roles across precision medicine, data science, project management, strategy consulting, clinical research, and pandemic-era logistics coordination... A chaotic but character-building time, as you can imagine.
Starting on 5/21, I will hold online tutorials every week on Thursdays from 8:00–9:00 PM EDT. For each tutorial, I’ll post 1 or 2 questions on my website and the Quercus page — assuming Quercus is ever resurrected from its mysterious digital slumber. These questions will usually cover either important chapter concepts or fully renovated versions of previous exam questions. I will only post the answer keys after the tutorial, so we can actually work through the problems together without spoiling the fun. Also, I never check attendance, but I also hate to record the sessions (though required), so I will walk through the materials without pausing if nobody answers or shows up. So please evaluate the opportunity cost of skipping the tutorial carefully. (థ౪థ)/

Each session will usually start with a 5–15 minute warm-up on the key ideas from lecture, followed by 25–45 minutes of problem-solving together, and then end with 5–15 minutes of one of the following: real-life or job-market applications, future extensions, useful MS Excel tools, or a real-world story related to the content.
