RETURN TO SCHOOL 5 DAYS!
The Stream
This is the running blog of all action on the Google Classroom group. It will list messages from your teacher and notifications of new material, documents and assignments being uploaded.
It usually lists actions in time order, and includes a message feature. You can directly comment to the whole group or just the teacher.
Remember that this is a public forum, so everyone will see what you write and it needs to be appropriate. In different classes, this feature may be turned off by your teacher. Your teacher also has the authority to remove any unwanted comments or posts.
Classwork (and Topic Folders)
The Classwork page shows you all the (links to) material, slides, documents, uploads and work that have been added and/or assigned by your teacher. This page usually scrolls in order of the topic folders created by the teacher. These topic folders are located on the left-hand side menu bar of the classroom and stream pages and can help you to navigate directly to particular information or work. Material that is not filed under a specific topic folder, will sit at the top of the classwork list.
The “VIEW YOUR WORK” tab under classwork shows a list of only the actual assignments that your teacher has set for submission. It does not show other tasks or work instructions that may have been mentioned in material or documents elsewhere in classwork.
Hint: be sure to always check the stream in case your teacher posts important information or work for you to complete in a “comment” or message format rather than as an “assignment” under classwork.
“Assignments” have the added feature of being digitally submitted, marked and graded through the classroom so you may find teachers might set lots of small ‘assignments’ as an easy way for you to keep track of your class activities and progress.

Minimise the amount of comments.
Teachers are notified by an email message every time you make any action on Google Classroom. For example, each time you write a comment or submit a piece of work, they receive an individual email to say you have done so. You can imagine how many emails teachers may receive if everyone makes repeated comments. So, please limit your comments and questions on Google Classroom. Try asking a friend or family member first, and save the questions for teachers if you are only absolutely genuinely stuck.
Only submit completed work:
Unless your teacher tells you otherwise, please don’t click submit until you have uploaded and completed all parts of the assigned task. Try to have the entire activity completed before you hand it in. Google allows you to upload multiple documents at once before submitting. Get in the habit of doing it all at once. This also then saves the need to “unsubmit” and “resubmit” tasks, which again triggers more email notifications to your teacher.
Year 11 and 12 students have access to Edrolo for most HSC subjects. They are encouraged to complement classwork with reference to Edrolo, which provides a myraid of curriculum content theory, practice tasks and mock exams. Go to https://edrolo.com.au to login (details were emailed to you at the start of the year).
For all of the High School, Education Perfect is available to everyone during the work-from-home period. They provide lessons for most subjects, as well as learning activities to complement work set by teachers. Go to https://www.educationperfect.com/app/#/ to login (details were emailed to your @education email address).
(some pages are still being updated)
We encourage students to follow their daily school timetable each day. This can be found on the Student/Parent Portal.
Teachers can ZOOM their classes during timetabled lessons.
Please note that teachers may put chunks of content on at one time. This does NOT mean all those tasks need to be completed that same day. The work is to be done as instructed, or as one task each day.
As advised by NESA, Lucas Heights Community School will continue to adhere to the HSC Assessment Schedule provided to students last year. Where necessary, staff have been asked to make adjustments to support students during this challenging time. Your class teacher will contact you and provide you with information related to any changes that may be required.
Chair of the NESA Board, Professor Peter Shergold, shared three important messages for HSC students:
1. We know you are worried. While we recognise we are facing an unprecedented situation, we want to assure you that you will be able to get a HSC certificate this year, and that the certificate will facilitate access to university, further education and employment, as it has for students over the past 50 years.
2. Keep learning, do your assessments as advised by your school, make progress on your major projects where you can and, most importantly, look after yourself, whether you are at school or at home. Reach out to family, friends and your teachers if you need to.
3. If you get sick, your school and NESA have provisions to ensure you are not disadvantage.
Due to the current health advice from NSW Ministry of Health to stay indoors where possible, all originally scheduled assessment tasks held at school will be postponed. We will advise classes within 2 weeks of a rescheduled assessment task when details are finalised.
