The rainbow-colored flag has been THE sign of the LGBT + community. We wear this particular rainbow flag around the area in Gay Pride, but do we use this emblem? What's the importance of the LGBT flag? Phèros, our LGBT + store, tells you a bit more about this pride flag.
It was produced in 1978 by queer artist Gilbert Baker, the earliest homosexual flag ever to emerge in San Francisco. Gilbert Baker was originally a soldier that, after leaving the military, learned to sew. He left a banner to protest against the war and also for homosexual rights. He befriends Harvey Milk (the first gay city councilor at San Francisco), who struggles to make a powerful symbol for its LGBT community.
As it was established, the homosexual flag had eight colors: the six people understand now in Addition to pink and indigo.
Rose chosen for sexuality.
Red for life.
Orange representing health.
Yellow for sunlight.
Green for nature.
Turquoise for art.
Indigo for serenity and harmony.
Purple for the spirit.
