Welcome to Leyline Highlander, a new Magic: The Gathering format! Wield the power of the great enchanters throughout Magic's history, and weave ley to crush your enemies.
Basic Rules and Guidelines
Leyline Highlander is, like many of the modern microformats, a variant of Commander/EDH. Because of this, it follows most of the same rules, regulations, and guidelines. Following is the basic premise, as well as the ways in which the format differs from base EDH. If a rule, regulation, or deviation is not explicitly stated, default to the EDH ruling.
Deck Size:
100 Card Singleton (1v1 or 4 player FFA)
Glamour (Commander):
1 Legendary Enchantment* (Format Legal Commanders)
*see notes about MDFC Legendary Enchantments, Legendary Enchantment Creatures, and Heliod, Radiant Dawn belowColour Identity:
Colour Identity is the same as your commander's, and a combination of your commanders' if you have more than one. (This is currently only possible using Faceless One and another Background)
Life Total/Life Cap:
Starting life total is set at 40.
Because Glamours are not creatures, Commander Damage is ignored. Instead, to prevent lifegain strategies from skyrocketing out of control, there is a life cap of 100 life.
Rule Zero:
For the purpose of balance and playtesting, the current expectation is to stay within the parameters of base Leylander. However, if and when players begin to utilize the format outside of playtesting and balancing, rule zero conversations are highly recommended. This may include alteration of any or all rules, regulations, and guidelines.
*Notes on MDFC Legendary Enchantments:
MDFC Legendary Enchantments (such as Esika/Prismatic Bridge) are allowed as your Glamour. However, only the enchantment side may be played from any zone. Should an MDFC Glamour be sent to any zone other than the Leyline (Command Zone), it is to be treated as a single sided Legendary Enchantment card, and the non-enchantment side of the card is to be treated as if it did not exist. That is, it cannot be played, summoned, copied, or otherwise interacted with in any way.
*Notes on Legendary Enchantment Creatures:
Legendary Enchantment Creatures that are your Glamour are treated as noncreature Legendary Kindred Enchantments that retain their creature types. This is persistent in all zones, and the card is treated as if it did not have the card type "Creature" printed on it. Legendary Enchantment Creatures that are your Glamour still experience summoning sickness, despite not being creatures. (This is mainly relevant for Go-Shintai of Life's Origin, as well as Shigeki, Jukai Visionary)
*Notes on Heliod, Radiant Dawn // Heliod, Warped Eclipse:
With regards to the previous rule, both sides of Heliod, Radiant Dawn // Heliod, Warped Eclipse are to be treated as noncreature Kindred Enchantments. Heliod may still transform, it is just no longer a creature.
