Description:
During this project, I researched and shared real-world examples of Information Security in the news and evaluated their sources. I completed a cybersecurity training, earned a certificate, and learned some important steps when handling cybersecurity issues.
Lesson Learned:
I’ve learned that strong cybersecurity and quick responses are crucial, especially in healthcare, which is a prime target for cybercriminals. It's also important to train employees to spot threats, and in case of a ransomware attack, isolate systems, notify authorities, and avoid paying the ransom.
The University of The Bahamas was hit by a ransomware attack, locking down its online systems and impacting students and staff. To protect ourselves, we should back up important data, use strong passwords with extra security like two-factor authentication, and be careful with suspicious emails. It’s also key to train people on cybersecurity and keep critical systems separate to limit the damage. Having a plan in place to respond quickly can help keep things under control in case of an attack.

The Community Health Center attack was a data breach where hackers stole personal and medical info from over a million patients. This included things like names, Social Security numbers, and medical records. To stop something like this from happening, healthcare organizations need better security, like encrypting data and keeping an eye out for suspicious activity. It's also important to train staff to spot cyber threats and have a solid plan in case something goes wrong. Protecting patient data should always be a top priority.

In addition to the media research, I had to complete and pass the CCBC Cybersecurity Training. This taught me how CCBC operates during such attacks, their efforts to prevent them, and how I can identify or respond to potential threats that could contribute to an attack.
