At LFA, students participate in a rigorous practice-centric debate curriculum, modelled after the systems of top-tier high school debate camps as well as Lexington High School’s own debate program. Our classes are separated into groups, allowing students the choice to engage in either a rigorous fast-paced system or a slower paced curriculum.
Our classes meet/convene every Saturday morning, lasting 2 hours long from 9am to 11am. The class is split into three parts, starting with quizzing and mini drills, then transitioning into a longer lecture, and finally finishing each class with hour long extensive debates and speech drills.
Our class differs from traditional beginner debate classes insofar as we try to focus on practical debate skills that can be utilized in everyday environments. Our holistic, pragmatic approach to learning also prioritizes the skills and knowledge that students need in rigorous high level debates akin to those at the high school level.
