Mission & Philosophy
The mission of the Lexington Basketball Association (LBA) is to provide opportunities for all participants to learn, develop and enjoy the game of basketball and to play with high integrity, sportsmanship and respect for all coaches, officials, and players while promoting Lexington Basketball. Through participation, youth will gain a knowledge of sportsmanship, teamwork, and fair play while developing skills and a lifelong love of sports.
We strive:
To provide a meaningful experience for all participants through quality instruction, emphasizing good sportsmanship along with teamwork, respect, dedication, and discipline.
To provide an atmosphere where each child feels a sense of belonging and achievement regardless of ability.
To recognize effort and improvement along with achievement to help improve self-esteem and foster a positive self-image.
To provide guidelines to make each sport age-appropriate and to ensure proper fundamentals are developed and enthusiasm for the sport is fostered.
To design our basketball program to attract and retain every interested player and raise the level of play of each of these players as high as possible.
To provide support and training for parents and other interested adults who take on the responsibility of providing, through sports, these positive lifestyle choices for their children.
PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY
The philosophy of the LBA is to provide the best competitive experience to athletes at multiple skill levels. We aim to assist our athlete's physical development by
Teaching fundamental and safe sports skills appropriate for their age.
Providing opportunities to improve their physical conditioning.
Providing a safe playing area.
To learn how to compete - how to put winning or losing in perspective.
To learn independence and the importance of teamwork.
Provide progressive development to our athletes.
Develop strong basketball IQ and court awareness.
INCLUSION POLICY
Equal sports play opportunities are provided for all youth regardless of race, creed, sex, economic status, or disability.
Sex/ race stereotyping and prejudice of any kind are prohibited
Adult youth sports leaders demonstrate a tolerance of, and respect for, people of all abilities, sizes, shapes, colors, and cultural, and economic backgrounds.
Every team has a non-discrimination policy that ensures participation for all youth regardless of race, creed, sex, economic status, or disability.
Sexual harassment issues should be reported to the LBA Board immediately. See the full Policy and Risk Management Guide for further details.
Programs
LBA is providing organizational opportunities and resources to those athletes and coaches who want to participate in a more competitive atmosphere and improve their skills.
LBA registration will place you on a team of appropriate age and skill if you do not already have a LBA team
If you have a team already if they are all signed up with LBA they will not be split up.
Skills Clinic focusing on fundamental skill development
A minimum of 5 sessions
An introduction and offer into the competitive program if interested.
No travel commitment or team formation
