What is Lex4Literacy?
Lex4Literacy is a Lexington community group with the mission of supporting literacy for all in Lexington Public Schools. OUR GOALS are to partner with LPS to:
Reduce and prevent reading and writing struggles for all LPS students
Improve equitable literacy outcomes and reading proficiency for all LPS students
Advocate for moving away from a disproven balanced literacy and workshop framework
Adopt a structured literacy approach that is inclusive for all children
How will LPS Get There?
Implement an evidence-based, structured literacy curriculum and interventions that are knowledge building and culturally affirming
Provide sufficient instructional time for mastery of taught foundational literacy skills
Train, coach & monitor teachers on structured literacy to ensure successful adoption
Increase reading teachers certified in Orton Gillingham & Wilson Reading System
Can All Children Learn How to Read? YES THEY CAN!!
All children come to school motivated to learn how to read and write and are capable of learning with a literacy curriculum & instruction that is accessible to all students.
Reading proficiency is essential for lifelong learning, communication and career success and is the most important skill that children learn in school.
Reading struggles and achievement gaps can be prevented with an evidence based, science-aligned Structured Literacy approach, grounded in how the brain learns to read, enabling all LPS students to achieve stronger reading and writing proficiency, and creating equitable academic outcomes.
