LCDC will be holding a series of free movie screenings on various social justice topics. The series kicks off with a screening of Ziad Hamzeh's 2003 documentary "The Letter," which depicts the tensions between current Lewiston residents and Somali and Somali-American arrivals to Lewiston. Although it was released over 20 years ago, this documentary is a helpful reminder of Lewiston's long history as a city of immigrants. Particularly in this current climate, it is more important than ever to remember that Lewiston's strength comes from its diversity, and fear and hatred have no place here. The screening will be followed by a facilitated discussion on how we can support New Mainers in our current climate, and increase representation. Drinks and snacks will be provided.
Date/Time: 10AM - 12:30PM (movie screening will start at 10:30AM)
Location: The Callahan Room, Lewiston Public Library, 200 Lisbon St.
