All the games feature some form of written component. This might be reading rule sheets, recording the statistics of your character in the game, or composing a poem as part of a challenge.
Dice are used in all the games, as are the skills of addition, subtraction, and statistical analysis of probabilities to inform strategy.
The level of the challenge in the games is set to the skill level of the player. Over the course of the program the challenges increase in difficulty as the player's skills increase. In this way we can scaffold the player's belief in their capacity to achieve a goal.
All the games require creative and strategic thinking to win. After games are played we investigate ways to improve them, and look at rules development and game design. In particular we focus on how the rules help us tell the stories we want to tell in the games.
