Basil is an incredibly intelligent, confident, and determined Sylvari. When she sets her mind on a task, she will always give it a good shot unless it is physically impossible. Her mind is always racing with new possibilities and solutions to problems, and she is exceptionally curious, often performing experiments with a goal to merely further her own knowledge.

She is generally cheery, always trying to get people to loosen up and give them a good time.

Basil is very perverted. In between projects when relaxing with her cohorts, she will always be the one cracking lewd jokes and perving on the cute men and women around her. It's even possible to easily engage in sexual activities with Basil, as she is very open about that kind of stuff and does not mind a quickie as long as she's not already set on a task.

Some minor emotional scarring occurred because of a demonic possession, but she has mostly recovered from it and retains her cheery disposition.

Basil is a Sylvari anomaly. She is shorter than average (about 4'9", or roughly 145cm), with larger than normal breasts. She is ever so slightly chubby. Her skin is purple, with streaks of red. Her hair and face are covered in thorns. Her eyes are green, and so is her body glow. For clothing, she normally wears purple. She loves wearing skirts. Basil's skin feels squishy to the touch like over-watered aloe, but it also springs back to its original shape.

Her job is studying the occult and learning how to best utilize forces from the Mists in practical ways. Her current innovation is a detailed method on how to bind a demon and control it.

Basil is linked via a thread of fate to a being from another universe entirely, an Au Ra girl named Ruby from Final Fantasy XIV.

Basil awoke from her pod as Kelsi, a very short but very intelligent sapling. Her small height did not come with small ambitions. She struck against any problem with crystal clarity, tackled oppressors and naysayers with razor sharp wit, and devoured knowledge ravenously, including tomes on the occult. However, one morning, the sapling realized that the song of the pale mother was guiding her away from the path that she wanted to follow, so Kelsi moved away, changing her name to Basil based on a herb she had read about in a tome.

Basil found refuge in another village full of Sylvari just like her: Soundless. With their help, Basil blocked out the Pale Tree entirely, allowing her to focus. It was here that she met another Soundless named Alistair. His reason for coming to the village was much different from hers, as the voices that plagued him were the voices of the dead. Basil helped Alistair cope with his condition, and the two of them grew incredibly close as a result.

During a routine attack on the Soundless village by the Nightmare Court, Basil met two Sylvari twins, Kasumi and Shiori. Basil was fascinated by them, and through talking with them, she found out that they were forming a guild called the Rose Vanguard. Basil delightedly joined, and became their third member and first officer. However, her time in the guild was short, as she still lusted for knowledge and the arcane arts. She soon left the guild and departed her village, traveling to the Durmand Priory with Alistair's blessing.

It was here that, while working as a scholar, she unearthed an ancient tablet from a dwarven ruin. The tablet eventually revealed the existence of a demon called Ipos. Basil captured this demon in her notes, but the tome become corrupted and allowed the demon to possess her forcing her into a Demon Shroud that changed her into a blood-thirsty beast.

Not keen on becoming a pawn for the demon, Basil used what little awareness she had left to weave arcane runes into the cover of her book, ending the possession and trapping the demon on the cover of the book. This caused a ghastly eye to manifest on the cover, and Basil believes this to be the eye of Ipos gazing out from within its prison of paper.

Now free to study Ipos at will, Basil became further obsessed with the occult as a result of her research, causing her to be ridiculed by her Priory peers and eventually led to Gixx kicking her out of the Priory. Afterward, Basil became an occult scholar, though she did occasionally return to her Soundless home.

After the death of both Primordus and Jormag, Basil began having terrible nightmares and violent visions. She correctly believed this to be a worsening ailment caused by extended proximity to Ipos, who had gotten stronger with the influx of magic to the world. Basil quickly set out to research cures for herself. This lead her down a rabbit hole where she discovered that the demon she had captured was set to consume her entirely if she didn't do something soon.

Luckily, with the help of a knowledgeable Mists entity--her best friend Maiko--Basil was able to reign in Ipos's essence, giving her complete control over the demon. This turned Ipos into an avatar that she could control at will. Basil could even merge with it safely, turning her normal Death Shroud into a Lemure Shroud, a short-lived transformation state where Basil uses the demon's powers to enhance her own abilities.

With this new power, Basil resigned from her scholarly duties, believing herself to have achieved something that no other occult researcher had been able to. Instead, she picked up a Scythe and became a Reaper, and her duties within the Rose Vanguard changed. She now occupies the front lines as she fights alongside her friends for the fate of the world.
