Term 3

English

This term, students will continue to develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills through a range of engaging texts and learning experiences aligned with the Victorian Curriculum.

Spelling
Students will participate in our structured Spellex spelling program, developing their understanding of spelling patterns, word knowledge and strategies to support accurate spelling in their everyday reading and writing.

Reading and Writing
Our poetry unit will explore language, rhythm and imagery through a text study of Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot and Moonfish by Harry Laing. Students will read, analyse and respond to a variety of poems before experimenting with writing their own poetry using rich vocabulary, descriptive language and poetic devices.

Students will also study Charlotte's Web to strengthen reading comprehension, fluency and critical thinking skills. Through the novel, students will examine how E. B. White uses language to develop characters, create settings and convey themes. They will critique the text by discussing characters' actions and motivations, making connections and supporting their ideas with evidence from the text.

In writing, students will focus on narrative writing, learning how to create engaging stories with well-developed characters, settings and plots. They will apply the writing process by planning, drafting, revising and publishing their work while using descriptive language and a range of narrative techniques.

Throughout the term, students will continue to build confidence as readers and writers while developing a deeper appreciation of literature and language.

Maths

This term, students will develop their mathematical understanding through engaging, hands-on learning experiences aligned with the Victorian Curriculum.

Students will deepen their knowledge of fractions and decimals, exploring the relationship between whole numbers, fractions and decimal notation. They will represent, compare and order fractions and decimals, applying their understanding in meaningful contexts.

In measurement, students will investigate units of length, mass, capacity and time, selecting appropriate units and measuring accurately to solve real-world problems.

Students will also explore angles, identifying, comparing and describing angles in everyday objects and shapes while developing their understanding of turns and direction.

Our time unit will focus on reading, interpreting and solving problems involving analogue and digital clocks, elapsed time and calendars.

Throughout the term, students will strengthen their mathematical reasoning, problem-solving and communication skills by explaining their thinking and applying their learning to authentic situations.

Digital Technologies

Over Terms 3 and 4, students will build their confidence and skills in using digital technologies to create, communicate and collaborate.

Students will explore how digital devices work together and how information is shared between different digital systems. They will learn to collect, organise and present information using a range of digital tools and create digital content for different purposes and audiences.

Throughout the semester, students will use technology to work collaboratively, plan tasks and share their learning in safe and responsible ways. They will also develop an understanding of online safety by using secure passwords, recognising the importance of protecting personal information and learning how to make safe choices when using digital technologies.

These learning experiences will help students become capable, responsible and confident users of technology in both the classroom and everyday life.

Health and Wellbeing

This term, students will participate in a range of learning experiences that support their physical, social and emotional wellbeing.

Through the Friendology program, students will develop the skills to build and maintain positive friendships, communicate respectfully and resolve conflicts in constructive ways. They will also explore strategies for recognising and managing stress, identifying trusted adults and seeking help when needed.

Students will participate in age-appropriate Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE), developing an understanding of personal growth, respectful relationships and the importance of making safe and healthy choices.

Throughout the term, students will also strengthen their understanding of cyber safety, learning how to use technology responsibly, protect their personal information and interact safely and respectfully online. These learning experiences will support students to make positive choices that contribute to their overall health and wellbeing.
