Letter to the Board of Deputies and the Jewish Leadership Council
Letter to the Board of Deputies and the Jewish Leadership Council
We, members of the Jewish community and Israelis living in the UK, together with our allies, strongly oppose the invitation extended to Nigel Farage to speak at a public rally against antisemitism.
We fully support public action against antisemitism and believe the Jewish community - together with all parts of British society - should unite around the clear message that antisemitism has no place in the United Kingdom or anywhere else. At a time of rising hatred and fear, it is essential to stand together in defence of Jewish safety and dignity.
The invitation of Nigel Farage fundamentally undermines that message.
The fight against antisemitism must be rooted in solidarity, moral consistency, and opposition to all forms of racism and hatred. It should be led by people who build trust and unity, not by political figures whose public record has repeatedly been associated with division, scapegoating, racism, and inflammatory rhetoric. Just this week Nigel Farage used his public platform on X/Twitter to refer to an ‘invasion’ in a post about refugees.
Moreover, Farage’s history includes allegations and accounts of antisemitic abuse and behaviour during his school years - testimonies that took courage for former classmates and victims to speak publicly about. Inviting him to speak at an event against antisemitism is a profound insult to those who came forward and described the abuse they experienced. It is sadly true that several politicians have made antisemitic comments or spread antisemitic messaging. However, Nigel Farage has never apologised for his actions or words, nor has he accepted accountability. It sends a painful message: that parts of our community now choose to not only turn a blind eye to some antisemitism, but to provide a platform to someone responsible for perpetrating it.
Antisemitism cannot be confronted selectively or cynically. We must not allow the struggle against hatred towards Jews to be used to rehabilitate divisive political figures or to score political points. Inviting Farage undermines the integrity of the event, alienates many within the Jewish community, and weakens the broader fight against racism and extremism in all forms. It also sends a confusing message to those outside the Jewish community whose solidarity and support we seek in this struggle.
We call on the organisers to withdraw this invitation and ensure that any rally against antisemitism genuinely reflects the values of dignity, accountability, inclusion, and solidarity.
